Katie + Vince’s destination wedding at Disney (Orlando, Florida) was nothing short of a fairytale. The day was completely designed to be their own and transpired at such a comfortable pace! Choosing a place with so much meaning to them both + keeping things more intimate = absolute perfection.
The day started off bright and early with getting ready over at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. They had a cabin reserved for Katie to get ready, and from the moment I walked in and discovered the meaning of “Hidden Mickeys” I was in the coolest creative headspace. These little secret pops of magic were intertwined throughout the entire day. Little crystal Mickeys in the flowers, a beautiful frosting Mickey on the back of their wedding cake, etc. Also, I loved the floral charm on her bouquet – “Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust”. There was absolutely no doubt about it – This was a Disney wedding!
Their morning ceremony came next (9:30 AM), as they didn’t want to see each other until Katie walked down the aisle. This took place at Disney’s Wedding Pavilion, which is basically an adorable little wedding island. Literally. It is surrounded by water and you have to walk across a bridge to reach it. Inside there is a window that is magnified so you can see Cinderella’s Castle while you exchange your vows. Following the “I Dos”, Katie and Vince ran through a rose petal toss surrounded by their family and friends.
Next! Tyler and I split up. He went to the reception to cover cocktail hour and I stayed back to direct formal photos. We opted to do their wedding couple portraits at various stops during the day for added variety. We did some at Disney’s Wedding Pavilion, some at Wilderness, some at their reception space, and some at Epcot. Wedding party we kept right at the ceremony site. There is so much variety there – you have no idea. We did some behind the ceremony space on this pathway surrounded by palms, some under the pavilion since it was open on the sides, and also off to the right side of the main gate there was a little beach area I saw that felt super tropical – and I was living for it! So we ventured into the sand a bit as well. Family formal we did inside the ceremony space as a more traditional backdrop.
Once we wrapped up formal photos we headed for the reception which was at the Contemporary Resort – more specifically – California Grill (Yum!). Food, dancing, and toasts filled this time. Set in a space with a beautiful overlook of the grounds for their backdrop.
After the reception, which I should note was in the early afternoon and actually lunch – we all took a boat ride back to the Wilderness Lodge! Then we had a break in the day. Katie + Vince spent some downtime as newlyweds with their family and friends, and we took some time to prepare for the epic festivities to come.
Come nightfall we met back up with Katie + Vince and their guests to head to Epcot for their dessert party! Which is actually a private fireworks show. But I am getting ahead of myself, let me back up. We walk into Epcot where we are greeted by a specific Disney guide with a light wand. We are all escorted in through the park, to our private little cove where we are tucked away from all of the parkgoers. Here cocktails and hors d’oeuvres are served and you await your front row viewing of their magnificent fireworks display. All of a sudden the lights dim, music plays and the magic starts. Katie + Vince let us have full creative freedom during the show. Tyler held one of our lights at varying angles and I remotely triggered them at random moments. We created some silhouetted shots, some with them side-lit, some backlit – you name it. It was actually a long enough show to get a lot of awesome shots without feeling rushed. Without a doubt, this was one of my favorite parts of the whole day.
After the show, we were led back out, glow stick and all. We made some fun little stops though for photos, and then parted ways with some hugs before Katie + Vince and their friends/family all hopped on the last ride of the night to close out their incredible wedding day.
Working with Katie + Vince was a dream, I had photographed Vince’s sister Meagan’s wedding previously, and was already well acquainted with the family by the time of their wedding – but now, I’ve also done maternity and newborn photos for his sister Monica. So we just love this whole bunch! Prior to the wedding, we had also done Katie + Vince’s engagement photos at Lakes & Legends Brewing Company here in Minnesota with their two pups! Therefore, it was an all-around amazing and comfortable day with the very best group of people imaginable –
Thank you so much for having us be a part of your wedding Katie + Vince!
